Finland will give up landline phones by 2026

Finland has made the decision to completely abandon landline telephone communication, which was considered a symbol of technological progress in the 20th century. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
One of the country's major telecommunications companies — Elisa, announced that it will discontinue all landline telephone networks by June 30, 2026. Currently, the number of subscribers using this service amounts to several thousand people.
According to the Yle news agency, at the end of April 2026, customers will receive an official letter about the discontinuation of the city telephone service. This letter will also offer alternative options for replacing the communication service.
According to the company, subscribers will be able to keep their home phone numbers even after the service is terminated. The possibility to transfer the number to a mobile network will be provided.
Two other major telecommunications operators in Finland — Telia and DNA have also decided to gradually discontinue landline telephone service. Telia stopped this service in 2019, while DNA began gradually reducing landline networks starting from 2021.
Local publications regard this change as the end of an era when home phones were the main means of communication between people and families.
