The US Exits WHO: A Financial Blow to Global Medicine

The cooperation between the United States and the World Health Organization (WHO) has been officially terminated. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Donald Trump administration made the final decision to cut all ties with WHO. As a result, the US lost its status as the organization's largest financial donor and exited the international medical arena.
Official Washington explained this decision by citing WHO's mismanagement during the pandemic and its susceptibility to China's influence. During the pandemic, WHO's activities were heavily criticized by the US.
The US Department of Health accused the organization of negligence in fulfilling its duties during the COVID-19 crisis. It was also emphasized that WHO was incapable of implementing internal reforms and, due to yielding to political pressures from certain countries, harmed international health security.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sharply condemned the US decision, calling it a great loss for the entire world. He reminded of the organization's significant achievements in combating HIV, poliomyelitis, and maternal mortality, expressing regret over the US decision.
In April 2025, many countries around the world signed a new agreement aimed at the equitable distribution of vaccines, but the US did not participate in this process. The US exit from WHO dealt a financial blow to the organization.
Washington refused to pay the $260 million dues allocated for 2024-2025. This led to staff reductions within the organization and the suspension of many important medical projects.
Additionally, American experts were recalled from WHO's Geneva and other regional offices. Due to the funding halt, hundreds of joint projects and scientific studies were concluded.
WHO leadership still hopes for the US to return to the organization. According to experts, the US re-engagement is crucial for improving the lives and health of millions of people.
The reconsideration of this decision is seen as a necessary measure to restore the global health system. In your opinion, how will the US exit from WHO affect the preparedness process for new pandemics?
