Europe and India are approaching a free trade agreement

The President of the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen, visited India on a state visit. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Her visit is aimed at strengthening the growing strategic partnership between India and the European Union. Von der Leyen participated as the chief guest at the Republic Day parade, emphasizing the increasing importance of India-European Union relations.
Ursula von der Leyen called India and the European Union close partners for global cooperation. She noted that their strategic partnership could play a significant role in combating political uncertainty, protectionism, and other global challenges.
During her visit to India, von der Leyen highlighted the importance of openness and dialogue. One of the main topics between India and the European Union is the signing of a long-term free trade agreement, which envisages the elimination of tariffs on goods and services.
This is expected to significantly increase bilateral trade. Von der Leyen referred to this agreement as "the mother of all agreements," emphasizing its substantial impact on the global economy.
Additionally, during the visit, cooperation issues in the fields of technology, climate change, clean energy, security, and digital infrastructure will also be discussed. The trade volume between India and the European Union currently amounts to 136.53 billion US dollars, making the European Union one of India's largest trading partners.
Within the framework of the visit, the parties are expected to continue working on plans to expand cooperation in defense, innovation, and research sectors. Such relations serve to further strengthen mutual interests.
