ADAC President Hillebrand Resigned

Gerhard Hillebrand, president of ADAC, one of the largest automobile clubs in Germany, has resigned. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This situation arose due to widespread protests following his interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper. This was reported by the Bild publication.
In the interview, Hillebrand emphasized the necessity of raising gasoline prices to encourage the transition to environmentally friendly vehicles. According to him, strict measures must be taken for people to switch from diesel and gasoline cars to electric vehicles.
However, his proposal caused strong opposition among the club members. According to official data, nearly 60,000 members left the club over the past four weeks.
This situation is considered a rare protest in ADAC's history. The club's management stated that Hillebrand's views do not reflect the official position of the organization.
They emphasized that ADAC will always support affordable transportation and oppose imposing additional financial burdens on the public. The club also acknowledged that many interpreted Hillebrand's statement as "abandoning the protection of motorists' interests" and promised to draw appropriate conclusions on this matter.
As a reminder, ADAC is a major automobile club in Germany with nearly 22 million members.
