Cryptocurrency market lost half a trillion in one week

The cryptocurrency market has once again experienced a sharp decline. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Within a week, the total market value decreased by nearly half a trillion dollars. According to CoinGecko data, starting from January 29, the market value shrank by $467.6 billion.
The greatest losses were attributed to Bitcoin. The Bitcoin price in the US fell to a 15-month low, reaching $72,877.
Later, it began to partially recover and was trading around $76,600 in London time in the morning. This decline once again questioned the confidence in Bitcoin, known as "digital gold," as a safe-haven asset.
At a time when geopolitical tensions have intensified and demand for safe assets was expected to rise, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies failed to find the anticipated support. On the contrary, they continued to decline, losing value alongside stocks.
Investors preferred to shift to safer assets. In this process, well-known investor Michael Burry also expressed his opinion.
He emphasized that Bitcoin is failing to establish itself as a security tool like precious metals and appears more as a speculative asset. Market uncertainty was also felt in futures trading.
In the last 24 hours, more than $700 million in long and short positions were closed, with total losses exceeding $6.67 billion. Flows in Bitcoin ETFs were also volatile: on Monday, a net inflow of $562 million was recorded, while on Tuesday, an outflow of $272 million was observed.
Overall, the current sentiment is cautious and risk-averse. According to BTC Markets analyst Rachel Lucas, Bitcoin’s levels below $73,000 have intensified "extreme fear" among market participants.
In conclusion, the cryptocurrency market still holds great potential, but blindly accepting it as a safe investment source is incorrect. Stable liquidity, transparent regulations, and real demand are necessary for restoring confidence in the market.
For now, the cryptocurrency market remains characterized by volatility and risk.
