The European Parliament demanded an increase in military aid to Ukraine

The European Parliament's Committee on Defence and Security emphasized on February 9 the urgent need to expand military aid to Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Committee representatives visited Kyiv on February 5–6 to assess the current situation. According to them, despite ongoing negotiations, there have been no signs of a ceasefire in the region.
According to the committee chair, Mari-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, during their time in Kyiv, they observed rocket strikes by Russia targeting civilian infrastructure and casualties among the peaceful population. It was also noted that thousands of people are living in harsh conditions, left without heating and electricity in the cold.
In the chair's opinion, hoping alone is not enough to achieve peace; it is necessary to act by providing assistance to Ukraine. The European Parliament delegation's visit to Kyiv took place ahead of a session scheduled in Strasbourg.
On February 11, the session plans to discuss the issue of allocating a loan of 90 billion euros by the European Union to Ukraine. During the visit, the delegation held meetings with the Office of the President of Ukraine, government representatives, the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as representatives of civil society and the defense industry.
According to a statement released by the European Parliament press service, European Union citizens are called upon to support Ukraine and strengthen European defense. It was also emphasized that Ukraine is showing interest in actively participating in the European Union's defense initiatives.
In particular, programs such as the European Defence Industry Programme and the "Security for Europe" instrument were noted as important. The committee clearly defines its position and evaluates the situation based on the principle of "acting now" rather than "waiting."
Although negotiations are ongoing, the events on the front and the condition of the peaceful population bring the necessity of increasing aid to Ukraine to the agenda.
