The situation in the Mediterranean Sea was seen as a migration risk for Europe.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that the escalation of the political and economic situation in Iran could pose a new and serious migration threat to the European continent. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Speaking at a press conference held on the occasion of the conclusion of the international fair in Munich, the head of state emphasized that Berlin officials do not want a repeat of the severe scenario that occurred in 2015 due to the Syrian war. In his opinion, maintaining the stability and state sovereignty of Iran is crucial not only for the immediate region but also for the security of the entire Europe.
Merz reminded that the population of Iran has exceeded ninety million and noted the necessity of resolving social and economic problems within the country. According to the Chancellor's analytical view, if governance in Iran weakens or the economic system completely fails, it could lead millions of people to seek refuge in Europe to save their lives.
Currently, the German government is struggling to accurately predict how many people might become refugees in the future. However, it is clear that an uncontrolled development of the situation would be a serious political and economic test for the European Union.
Looking back at history, the migration crisis caused by the civil war that began in Syria in 2011 reached its peak in 2015. At that time, nearly one million refugees entered German territory, and former Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to accept them placed enormous pressure on the country's social system.
This process forced the state infrastructure, particularly schools and factories, to be temporarily converted into shelters. As a result, sharp changes occurred in Germany's domestic politics, paving the way for the rise of political forces demanding migration restrictions.
Friedrich Merz called on the USA and Israel to bring Iran to the negotiating table more quickly in order to ease the current situation and eliminate future threats. According to the Chancellor, achieving stability through diplomatic means is the only and most effective way to prevent a new influx of refugees.
The German government is trying to protect its borders and internal social stability by preserving the independence of the Iranian state. Any major geopolitical crisis that may arise in the future could once again force European countries to reconsider their migration policies and take new measures.
