Azerbaijan and Russia reach agreement on plane crash

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Russia issued a joint statement announcing that an agreement has been reached on the main issues regarding the crash of an AZAL Airlines passenger plane that occurred in December 2024. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The official statement emphasized that all important matters related to measures for eliminating the consequences of the tragedy and compensation for those affected have been settled. However, representatives of the two states did not disclose the specific terms and financial details of this agreement.
The parties view this decision as an important step toward developing mutual cooperation and further strengthening allied relations. For reference, on December 25, 2024, an AZAL Airlines Embraer E190 aircraft flying on the route between Baku and Grozny crashed near the city of Aktobe in Kazakhstan.
As a result of this severe tragedy, 38 people died and 29 passengers survived. After the incident occurred, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the plane had been accidentally shot down by the Russian air defense system.
Following this admission, a certain degree of coolness was observed in diplomatic relations between Moscow and Baku. The current agreement is expected to serve to eliminate these contradictions and restore peace between the two states.
