Heavy Rains Cause Mass Livestock Deaths in Kazakhstan

Livestock breeders in the Karakoyan district of Kazakhstan's Mangistau region are suffering serious losses. According to Zamin.uz, mass deaths of domestic animals have been recorded due to adverse weather conditions and continuous heavy rains in recent days.
Local residents report that the incessant precipitation turned pastures into impassable swamps and mud, which hindered the movement of animals and became the primary cause of their tragic death. Statistics show that the natural phenomenon caused significant damage to farms in a very short period.
It is reported that on April 20 of this year, a total of 237 head of livestock died in the district, including more than a hundred horses, with the remainder being sheep and goats. A day later, on April 21, the scale of losses expanded further with another 316 animals dying.
Thus, in just two days, more than 550 animals perished, nearly half of which were valuable horses. Currently, the Karakoyan district administration and relevant specialists are working together to eliminate the consequences of land erosion and waterlogging.
Special machinery has been deployed to clear roads and manage areas where water has accumulated. Local administration representatives stated that the process of counting the exact number of dead livestock and formalizing the necessary reports is underway.
The main concern for many is the compensation for material damage. Official authorities have announced that once all necessary documents are prepared and the deceased animals are fully identified via their special chips, the disposal process will begin in cooperation with veterinary services.
The issue of compensating farmers for their economic losses is planned to be thoroughly reviewed based on current legislative requirements and procedures. Government officials have stated that they have taken full control of the situation.
