A significant political shift has occurred in the United States, sparking major debates within human rights and the judicial system. According to Zamin.uz, the ban on federal executions imposed during Joe Biden's presidency has officially expired.

Details of this controversial decision by the Department of Justice and the changes following it are drawing public attention. On Friday, the U.S.

Department of Justice announced the lifting of the moratorium on federal executions. According to an official statement, the government has reinstated its obligation to carry out legally finalized death sentences.

This decision signifies the certainty of punishment for inmates who have exhausted all stages of appeal. Under the new regulations, the lethal injection protocol used during Donald Trump's first presidential term has been restored.

Additionally, supplementary options such as firing squads have been added to the list of execution methods, and the review process for death penalty cases has been accelerated to the maximum extent. Acting U.S.

Attorney General Todd Blanche sharply criticized the previous administration, calling the abandonment of capital punishment a failure to fulfill the duty of protecting the public. He emphasized that under President Trump's leadership, the Department of Justice is returning to a path of strictly ensuring law enforcement and supporting crime victims.

It is worth noting that in January 2025, Donald Trump signed an executive order restoring the death penalty at the federal level and issued instructions to provide states with the necessary medical supplies. As a practical manifestation of these changes, on March 7, 2025, a prisoner was executed by firing squad in the U.S.

for the first time in fifteen years. Sixty-seven-year-old Brad Keith Sigmon answered to the law for a brutal murder committed in 2001, where he killed his ex-girlfriend's parents with a baseball bat.

Sigmon himself preferred the firing squad over the electric chair or lethal injection. According to witnesses, the sentence was carried out in a specialized room where the executioners fired through slots in the wall, making them invisible to the condemned and the witnesses.

Whether these strict measures will serve to reduce crime in the country remains unknown. However, the government's resolve is eliciting mixed reactions in society.
