Giant tuna sold for record price in Japan

The famous Japanese Kiyomura Corporation spent a record amount on a giant bluefin tuna at the first auction of 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The company paid 510.3 million yen, that is, approximately 3.2 million US dollars for this purchase and earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records. This enterprise, which manages the Sushizanmai chain of restaurants, achieved absolute victory at the trading sessions of the Tokyo fish market.
This was reported in detail by international media outlets and local publications. This unique fish, weighing 243 kilograms, was caught off the shores of the country's Aomori Prefecture.
The traditional trading took place on January 5 at the Toyosu market in Tokyo in high spirits. The purchased tuna was prepared at the company's restaurant kitchen in the Tsukiji area and presented to customers all over Japan as a high-quality dish. Kiyomura Corporation's head, Kiyoshi Kimura, ceremoniously received the special Guinness certificate on April 20.
In his speech, the head particularly emphasized that the company aims to continue supplying its customers only with the finest and highest-quality seafood. This is the second world record set for this company.
Earlier, in 2013, the corporation also drew the world's attention by purchasing a fish for 155.4 million yen at the year's first auction. According to Tokyo officials, the current price was recorded as the highest indicator in trading sessions held since 1999.
In Japan, offering a high price at the year's first auction is considered not just a purchase, but a special way of expressing goodwill and widely promoting one's business. This exciting process at Toyosu market has already become one of the most interesting and popular spectacles for many foreign tourists as well.
