Muhammad was the third most popular name in England for the third year in a row

In England and Wales, the name Muhammad remained the most popular choice for baby boys born in 2025, according to Zamin.uz.
This marks the third consecutive year that Muhammad has topped the list of most commonly chosen names in the country. Official statistics show that nearly six thousand newborn boys were given the name Muhammad over the past year.
This figure is approximately two thousand more than the number of boys named Noah, which ranked second in the rankings. Muhammad and Noah have consistently occupied the top positions in the list for the past three years.
In the current year’s ranking, the names Leo and Luka also achieved strong results, rising to third and fourth place respectively. They surpassed traditional names such as Arthur, Oliver, and George, which had previously led the rankings.
According to analysis, various spelling variants of the name Muhammad have also retained their popularity. Specifically, the variant Mohammed ranked twentieth in the list of most popular names, while Mohammad occupied the fifty-fifth position.
These spelling variants were additionally chosen as names for thousands of newborn boys. Among girls, analysis revealed that Olivia remained the most popular name for the second consecutive year.
The following positions were held by names such as Lily, Amelia, Ayla, and Florence. Experts emphasize that Muhammad has not fallen out of the top ten most popular names in the country since 2016.
The name first entered the top 100 most popular names in 1997 and has since become increasingly widespread. The UK’s National Statistics Service attributes this trend to the steady growth of the Muslim population in the country.
Currently, approximately four million Muslims reside in Great Britain, constituting about six percent of the total population. For Muslim families, the name Muhammad is not only a beautiful choice for a child but also a significant symbol of religious and cultural heritage.
At the same time, interest in names belonging to various ethnic and cultural backgrounds in the country continues to grow from year to year.
