A major theft occurred in Mexico's mining industry in 2025. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Bloomberg.com, a truck belonging to Grupo Minero Bacis was stopped by armed men, and 33 tons of gold and silver ore concentrate were stolen. The incident took place on a main road leading from Durango to the port of Manzanillo.
The armed men moved in two white cars, blocked the truck, and held the driver and guards hostage for an hour and a half. During this time, the truck and trailer came under their control and disappeared with the valuable cargo.
Although the police found the truck, they could not locate the trailer and the metal concentrate inside it. The head of Grupo Minero Bacis, Jose Jaime Gutierrez Nunez, called this loss a significant tragedy for the industry.
The company is one of the leaders in gold, silver, zinc, and lead production in Mexico. This incident could serve as a warning for the entire mining industry.
According to Bloomberg, thefts are common in Mexico. At the beginning of 2025, the number of robberies increased by 30 percent, with one attempted theft recorded every 50 minutes.
Experts emphasize the need to strengthen security in the mining industry and to reassess the transportation system. This requires the introduction of new technologies, increased oversight, and improved cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
