The political situation in South Korea is escalating again. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
New serious measures have been taken against the country's former president Yun Sok Yol. The Seoul city court has accepted a decision to arrest him for the second time, according to Yonhap news agency.
This decision was made in the context of serious cases related to the state of emergency in the country. In December 2024, Yun Sok Yol declared a state of emergency in South Korea.
This decision faced sharp criticism not only from parliament but also from the wider public. As a result, he was impeached and arrested in January 2025.
However, in March, the court temporarily released him. The investigation process continued.
On July 6, 2025, the special prosecutor requested a new arrest order from the court. This time, five serious charges were brought against him.
These include crimes such as bypassing the powers of Cabinet members, falsifying official documents, and spreading false information about the state of emergency. According to the special prosecutors, Yun Sok Yol attempted to undermine the constitutional order and violated the law.
The judge allowed the arrest, emphasizing the high likelihood of him destroying evidence. Currently, the former president is being held in a prison in Seoul and is awaiting the court's next decision.
He is facing charges of rebellion and other serious crimes. Yun Sok Yol and his defenders consider the accusations to be political repression.
However, the court and investigative authorities are taking the case seriously. In the coming weeks, this issue is expected to be at the center of significant attention both domestically and internationally.
