Negotiations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky may be resumed, but for this, Zelensky must fulfill several conditions set by the White House. This was stated by White House National Security Advisor Mike Walls in an interview with Fox News.
What is being demanded from Zelensky?
According to Walls, the Ukrainian president must agree to comply with the following conditions:
1️⃣ Acknowledge regret for the events that occurred during the meeting on February 28.
2️⃣ Sign a deal on natural resources.
3️⃣ Express readiness to participate in peace negotiations.
"We need to hear from Zelensky that he is ready for peace negotiations. We are not asking for much from him," said Walls.
The U.S. will not provide unlimited aid to Ukraine
Walls emphasized that the United States has provided significant military and economic assistance to Ukraine, but this support will not last forever.
"It is clear that Zelensky is not ready to talk about peace negotiations. However, the problem is that time is not on his side. America's patience and economic capabilities are not unlimited," the advisor said.
Additionally, Walls accused some Democrats and international leaders of choosing a scenario reminiscent of conflicts during World War I. According to him, the U.S. is not willing to agree to unlimited military actions in Ukraine and that the conflict should be resolved diplomatically as soon as possible.
Economic agreement and Washington-Kiev relations
A White House representative criticized the lack of an economic agreement on resources between Ukraine and the U.S. He believes this agreement could have economically united Kiev and Washington. However, as Walls pointed out, due to disagreements within the White House, Zelensky "lost his sight while trying to add eyebrows."
What is Zelensky's stance on negotiations?
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated that he does not wish to discuss disagreements with Trump.
"I don't think we need to continue strong ties in this format. I am confident that this situation will be left behind and more important work lies ahead. If we all continue to be constructive, I believe we will achieve a positive outcome," he said to journalists in London.
Despite the negotiations between Trump and Zelensky being stalled once again, the White House is ready to continue this process. However, for this, Zelensky must support peace negotiations and agree to strengthen economic cooperation with the U.S.
At the same time, the Ukrainian leadership currently prefers a constructive approach in relations between Washington and Kiev. Thus, whether negotiations between the two countries will resume or not depends on Zelensky's future decisions.
