Foreigners serving in the Russian army come from a total of 28 countries, with North Korean citizens occupying one of the top positions in terms of the number of casualties.
According to South Korean intelligence, the number of killed North Koreans may reach 600, but this has not been officially confirmed. Among the Central Asian countries, Tajikistan ranks first with 72 casualties, while Uzbekistan is in second place with 66 citizens.
43 people from Tajikistan and 46 from Uzbekistan have been recruited into the war with the promise of easing their sentences. Most of them have signed contracts with the "Wagner" private military company.
According to human rights activists, Russia is exerting pressure on migrants by recruiting them for the war. Promises have been made to migrants, such as lifting the entry ban to Russia, expediting citizenship, or avoiding deportation in exchange for participating in the war.
In some cases, migrants have been forced to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense under threat. Among the losses outside the CIS, the highest number of casualties is from Nepal — 70 people, and 50 Nepalis are also reported missing.
The Nepalese government is trying to identify its citizens by sending DNA samples to Russia. There are also 63 losses among Georgian citizens.
Most of them are from South Ossetia and Abkhazia, regions that broke away from Georgian control in the 1990s, and among those recruited from the Caucasus are professional soldiers and former officers. Among those who fought in the Russian army are citizens from several African countries, including Ethiopia, Zambia, the Central African Republic, Tanzania, and Togo.
The Sri Lankan government has reported that 288 retired military personnel have been sent to Russia, of whom 16 have been killed. According to BBC reports, there are also several Americans in the ranks of Russia.
Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 American volunteers are fighting in the Ukrainian army. Additionally, 54 Ukrainian citizens who served in the Russian armed forces and were killed in the war have been identified.
