Toyota became the best-selling car brand in the world in 2024, according to cenyavto.com. The Japanese company sold approximately 10.7 million new cars globally throughout the year. Nevertheless, in 2024, the demand for Toyota products decreased by 4%, meaning the company achieved high results even during a period of declining sales.
Interestingly, while Toyota remains a global market leader, it sells very few electric vehicles. Out of approximately 10.7 million cars, only about 140,000 are electric vehicles, which constitutes about 1.3% of the total.
This result serves as an indicator for many manufacturers, suggesting that a large part of the world (mostly outside of China) is still inclined to purchase internal combustion engine vehicles. However, one of the reasons for the high popularity of Toyota cars is the company's presence in almost all markets.
