Skoda plans to sell affordable crossover for Europe market

The Czech automaker Skoda aims to reclaim the affordable car segment in the European market. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Company management is considering the possibility of bringing the Skoda Kylaq crossover, specifically developed for the Indian market with a price of approximately 8 thousand dollars, to European countries. This step is expected to satisfy the high demand for small and affordable city cars on the continent.
In recent years, the choice for customers has sharply decreased because compact models such as the Ford Ka, Peugeot 108, and even the Skoda Citigo have been discontinued in the European market. Currently, the Skoda Fabia, offered as the cheapest option, starts at 21 thousand pounds sterling, or approximately 26 thousand dollars.
This is considered a significantly high price for consumers looking for an affordable car. According to an interview with Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer, the company is working on a new project by combining cost-effective components from various sources.
Zellmer noted that the design, technology, and assembly quality of the Skoda Kylaq model introduced in India could be adapted to European standards. Although the price of this crossover is very low in India, the process of adapting it to European requirements may slightly increase its price, but it will still remain the cheapest model.
The company head stated that it is very difficult to lower the price of the Fabia model below 20 thousand euros, but the huge price difference between the Kylaq and Fabia creates a great opportunity for a new business model. This crossover is considered very convenient for city driving due to its compact dimensions and fuel efficiency.
Skoda initially participated in a project for affordable electric cars being developed by the Volkswagen Group, but later decided to withdraw from the project. Zellmer explained that the growth rate of the electric vehicle market is currently lower than expected, which is why the company prefers to focus on its traditional gasoline models, such as the Fabia, Scala, and Kamiq.
The appearance of a new affordable electric car on the market is not expected until the end of the current decade. Therefore, Skoda intends to protect its market share by maintaining and expanding affordable internal combustion engine models.
For Uzbek car enthusiasts, Skoda's work on such affordable crossovers may also be of interest, as the demand for compact and economical crossovers is constantly increasing in our country. In conclusion, the adaptation of the Skoda Kylaq model for the European market ensures the brand's accessibility to customers of all levels.
If the project is successfully implemented, it will hold an important place in the company's global strategy.
