The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan has officially commented on the information circulating on social networks regarding the imposition of restrictions on taxi drivers to operate only in their respective regions. This was reported by Upl.uz.
The head of the ministry's press service, Navruz Ashurmatov, confirmed in an interview with the "Daryo" publication that these changes are real and that the implementation process has begun. According to Ashurmatov, the idea of regional restrictions for route taxis is not new.
He recalled the decision No. 139 adopted in 2011. This decision regulated taxi operations and stipulated that drivers could only transport passengers within the area specified in their license (Chapter 5, Clause 9).
Although this decision has been repealed, a new document adopted in 2025 reinstated this principle and ensured that taxi drivers are tied to their regions. According to the new rules, a taxi driver can operate within their region and the neighboring provinces specified in the license.
For example, a vehicle with a Tashkent number (01) will have the right to operate in Tashkent city, Tashkent region, and Syrdarya region. The same arrangement will apply to other regions as well.
These measures are aimed at strengthening discipline in the transport sector.
