Significant changes are being introduced in Uzbekistan's protection system against violence and discrimination against women. This was reported by Upl.uz.
According to a new decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, individuals who commit violence will now be required to undergo special psychocorrection programs. These programs are aimed at preventing repeat offenses, addressing the personal issues of offenders, and effectively adapting them to societal demands.
The document defines the term psychocorrection as a set of complex measures aimed at eliminating deficiencies in an individual's development and resolving discrepancies between a person's psychophysiological characteristics and societal norms. This work is carried out through psychological-pedagogical methods.
The correction program designed for individuals who commit violence lasts for one month and aims to instill standard behavioral rules. From now on, the obligation to undergo this program will be specified when protection orders are issued.
The correction plan must be developed within two working days after the order is formalized. Psychologists actively work with individuals who commit violence based on special psychocorrection methods, which helps reduce the risk of reoffending.
Correction programs will be implemented in the following organizations: local commissions strengthen family values and resolve family disputes; educational institutions focus on conflicts in the educational process and environment; healthcare institutions monitor the mental state of participants; employment agencies assist in temporary unemployment, vocational training, and increasing social activity; and youth affairs departments conduct educational work with youth, preventing conflicts by helping them spend their free time meaningfully and providing employment. Additionally, the decision introduces a new important position — the deputy mayor of the district (city) responsible for family and women's affairs.
Within the scope of their authority, they will submit mandatory presentations to responsible leaders if the necessary measures to be taken against individuals who commit violence by state bodies and organizations are not fulfilled, and will implement measures aimed at addressing issues related to ensuring the rights and legal interests of women.
