
The press service of the Tashkent region customs department reported that an attempt to illegally export cultural valuables was thwarted. This was reported by Upl.uz.
Employees of the "Keles" border railway customs post located in the Tashkent region inspected the luggage of a passenger on the "Tashkent-Almaty" train. During the inspection, a carpet that raised suspicions among customs officials was found in the citizen's luggage.
This carpet was sent for artistic expertise to the cultural heritage agency. According to the expert conclusion, the carpet was recognized as a cultural asset of artistic and historical significance and is prohibited from being exported from Uzbekistan.
The value of the carpet was estimated at five million soums. Relevant documents were formalized regarding this case, and the matter was sent to court for legal resolution.
Customs officials have been effectively fulfilling their duties in protecting the country's cultural heritage.
