With the start of the new academic year, 208 specialized “Matonat Schools” have opened their doors across Uzbekistan. This was reported by Upl.uz.
For the first time, 5,400 students were admitted to these schools after successfully passing a two-stage selection process. The initiative to establish these educational institutions was approved by a presidential decree in November 2024.
The main goal of the project is to improve the system of preparing youth for initial military conscription and to educate them in the spirit of loyalty to the Motherland. According to the Ministry of Education’s press service, the educational process in the “Matonat Schools” is distinctive.
Alongside the standard curriculum, students study mathematics, physics, history, and foreign languages in depth. Special emphasis is placed on preparation for initial conscription, with practical training conducted at training grounds and military units.
Admission to these schools begins from the fifth grade and is based on a competitive selection. Candidates undergo test exams in core subjects and meet physical fitness requirements.
Each class consists of 26 students. The full course runs from the 5th to the 11th grade, spanning seven years.
Graduates of the 9th grade receive a certificate of basic secondary education, while 11th-grade graduates obtain a full secondary education diploma. The establishment of “Matonat Schools” is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing the prestige of the subject on initial military conscription preparation.
Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, this subject will be taught for two hours per week, and the activities of NDP leaders will be coordinated under the new system. In Uzbekistan, the system of preparing youth for initial military conscription is mandatory in secondary, secondary specialized, and initial vocational education institutions and is regulated by the law “On General Military Duty and Military Service.”
