French goalkeeper Mike Maignan has been appointed as the new captain of the 'Milan' team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
This was announced by the team's head coach Massimiliano Allegri at a press conference. Maignan became the first foreign player to wear the captain's armband for the "rossoneri" since the 1960s.
The last foreign captain was Swedish player Nils Lidholm, who defended the club's honor from 1949 to 1961. Maignan had previously taken the field as a captain, having led the team several times last season and was third in the hierarchy of captains.
The first two captains, Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez, left the team during the summer transfer window. The current contract between Maignan and 'Milan' is set to last until the summer of 2026.
Earlier, there were reports that London club 'Chelsea' showed interest in the French national team goalkeeper.
