Former head coach of the Russian national team Valery Gazzaev expressed confidence that despite losing the championship last season, the St. Petersburg team "Zenit" maintains its leading position in the country's football. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to the specialist, "Zenit" is currently considered the flag bearer of Russian football and is one of the strongest teams in the Russian Premier League. Last season, "Zenit" finished second in the competition table, falling behind "Krasnodar," thus ending a series of gold medals that lasted for six years.
The new season began with the St. Petersburg team demonstrating strong will against "Rostov," winning 2:1. In the second round, "Zenit" will travel to Kazan under the leadership of Sergey Semak, where they will compete against the "Rubin" team led by Rashid Rahimov.
This match is expected to test the team's potential for the new season.
