Alexander Zhukov, the first deputy of the State Duma of Russia, expressed his opinion that restrictions in the Russian Premier League may be tightened. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
He emphasized that as a fan of the "Spartak" team, he wishes to see more local players playing in the Russian championship. For this reason, he supports the position of the Russian Ministry of Sports.
According to Zhukov, currently, the number of foreign players in the Premier League is high, and having only three Russian players on the field is not enough. He also mentioned that the tightening of restrictions may not be fully approved by club leaders.
Earlier, media outlets reported that new restrictions might be introduced, which would prohibit having ten legionnaires on the roster and five participating on the field. These changes are being considered to promote the development of Russian football and support local talents.
The tightening of restrictions is expected to create more opportunities for local players in teams, while also helping to improve the quality of the league. However, this decision may lead to mixed reactions among club leaders and specialists.
