Former referee Sergey Lapochkin commented on the second dismissal of a "Spartak" player during the match against "Baltika" (0:3). This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
He noted that the capital team's wing defender Markinyos received his first yellow card for arguing with the referee, while the second was given for a rough play by Vladislav Saus. At the same time, Saus could have been in an offside position.
Lapochkin emphasized that there is no mechanism in the regulations to cancel such a punishment. The assistant referee's incorrect determination of the offside position cannot be a basis for canceling the card.
The VAR system can only intervene in determining offside when a direct red card or penalty is awarded. According to Lapochkin, the assistant referee incorrectly flagged the offside, but it would have been better for "Spartak" if referee Karasyov had shown a red card, as the VAR system could have called him back.
These comments were conveyed by "Match TV". Thus, under the current rules, there is no possibility to change the punishment in such cases.
