Yuriy Belous previously worked as the vice-president of the "Lokomotiv" football club. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In an interview with the "Euro-Football" online publication, he evaluated the referee's performance in the match between the "Zenit" and "CSKA" teams that took place in the third round of the Russian Premier League. The match ended in a 1:1 draw.
According to Belous, there was no clear reason to award a penalty in the controversial situation. He noted that the player touched the opponent's leg, but shortly after that, Mantuan fell.
He could have actually not fallen. Therefore, Belous believes there is no basis for sharply criticizing the referee in this case.
He also noted that in some European championships, especially in England, not all referees may award a penalty in such situations. Currently, the "Zenit" team is in seventh place in the Russian Premier League standings with five points.
The "CSKA" team has also collected the same number of points, but is positioned one place lower.
