The head coach of Moscow's Torpedo football team, Oleg Kononov, responded to questions about his resignation after his team managed to collect only one point in the first four rounds of the PARI League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, in such situations, a coach must always be prepared for the management's decision. Kononov emphasized that if the team fails to achieve the goal of promotion to the higher division, it is a significant test for the coach, and management can make changes at any time.
In recent matches, Torpedo suffered several defeats. The team lost 0:1 to Spartak from Kostroma, and prior to that, they missed opportunities against Chelyabinsk with a score of 2:3 and SKA-Khabarovsk with a score of 0:1.
Torpedo secured their only point in a match against Neftkhimik, which ended in a 0:0 draw. By the end of the 2024/2025 season, the Torpedo team was promoted to the Russian Premier League, but was expelled from the league and returned to the lower division due to evidence of attempts to bribe referees.
The team is now setting new goals and working to improve their results in upcoming matches.
