The head coach of Madrid's Real team, Xabi Alonso, recently decided to test player David Alaba in the central midfield position. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The Austrian player was previously known for his versatility. After moving to Real, he was mainly deployed as a central defender and only occasionally played on the left wing.
When Xabi Alonso was appointed as coach, the situation changed. Now, the 33-year-old Alaba is once again operating as a central midfielder.
Commenting on this change, David Alaba said it is a new experience for him. He noted that he had played in midfield before, but it had been quite some time.
According to him, while this situation is familiar, he is trying to prove himself again in a new environment. In the last friendly match, the Real team won 4-0 against Austria's Tirol club.
In this match, David Alaba came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute. These changes are allowing the team to experiment with new tactical solutions.
Coach Alonso is striving to make full use of the players' capabilities.
