According to Stats Foot, the 17-year-old Spanish player repeated Pele's record, becoming the first player to score three goals against France before turning 18. Previously, this achievement was only accomplished by Brazilian Pele, who scored a hat-trick against France in the semi-finals of the 1958 World Cup.
Yamal scored this third goal in the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championship — at that time, Spain defeated France 2-1.
