What is the weather expected to be like in April?
April 2025 is expected to start with dry weather, reports the "Uzgidromet" agency.

In Uzbekistan, April is usually the middle of the spring season, during which trees bloom in gardens, and the formation of vegetable crops and berry fruits begins.

In the first five days of this April, the air temperature is expected to rise from +22…+25 degrees to +27…+30 degrees, and in the north, south, and desert areas, it may reach +32 degrees. In the second five days of the month, the air temperature will mainly be around +22…+27 degrees.

On April 7, rain is expected in some places in the northern part of the republic, and on April 8-10, rain may occur in central and eastern regions, with thunderstorms possible.

In the second and third decades of the month, nighttime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from +8…+13 degrees to +2…+7 degrees, while daytime temperatures will vary from +25…+30 degrees to +10…+15 degrees.

How has April been in previous years?

According to meteorologists, the air temperature usually continues to rise rapidly in April. The average temperature in most parts of the republic is expected to be 5-7 degrees higher than in March. In the north and desert areas, the air will start to warm up more quickly, with the average temperature in April being 8-10 degrees higher than the values in March.

In the history of meteorological observations in Uzbekistan, April 2022 was the hottest (3-5 degrees above normal). In this century, April 2009 was the coldest in most parts of the region.

The temperature background in April is often spring unstable. The rapid warming of the air in spring lasts for a short period, but sometimes continues with very noticeable cold spells.

During the hottest periods, the air temperature can rise to +28…+33 degrees during the day. The absolute maximum temperature (the highest values for all observations) is +35…+37 degrees, while in the north, south, and desert areas it reaches +38…+39 degrees.

During cold periods, although not as frequently as in March, nighttime temperatures sometimes drop to freezing levels. April is one of the wettest months of the year.

Rain is usually observed along with thunderstorms and strong winds. In the northern part of the republic, in the far south and desert areas, precipitation is recorded from 5 to 8 days per month, while in areas closer to the mountains, the number of rainy days increases to 9-13.

Throughout the history of meteorological observations, very dry days have also been recorded in April, where in most parts of the region, the amount of precipitation for the month did not exceed 5-30 percent of the norm, and in some places, it was not observed at all. Such a case was recorded in April 1975. In Tashkent, it rained only twice, and the total precipitation for the month was 2 millimeters (3 percent of the norm).

A distinctive feature of precipitation in this month is its extremely uneven distribution across the region. There have also been Aprils where precipitation in some areas of the republic was 3-5 times higher than the norm within a month.

For example, in the history of meteorological observations, April 1990 was the rainiest in Tashkent, with precipitation during the month being around 300 percent of the monthly norm, and the number of rainy days was 19 (with the norm being 13 days).

On April 8, 1990, a record was set in Tashkent for the amount of precipitation in a single day in April, reaching 65 millimeters (the monthly norm being 62 millimeters).

The extreme unevenness of precipitation distribution sometimes manifests even in the same area. On April 2, 2023, a strong downpour was observed in Tashkent with thunderstorms, increasing winds, and hail in some places. The amount of precipitation during this time was 10 millimeters in the telecommunication tower area, 22 millimeters in the Tashkent Observatory meteorological station area (near Oloy market), and 33 millimeters in the area of Tashkent International Airport within 2.5-3 hours.

April 2024 was dry in most parts of the republic. However, in some places across the republic, strong downpours were observed, with precipitation amounts reaching 40-70 percent of the monthly norm within a few hours. On April 13, 16 mm of precipitation was recorded in the Jongeldi (Kyzylkum Desert) meteorological station area, matching the monthly norm, which was the only rain in that area throughout April.

In some regions of the republic, it is observed that rain turns into snow for a short period once every 3-5 years. The last occurrence was in April 2020, when snow fell in some places in the central and even southern provinces at the end of the first decade of April, which was rare even in winter.

On April 9, 2020, in the morning, the snow cover in some places reached 7-20 centimeters. The latest date for snowfall in Uzbekistan was recorded on April 30, 1989. This has so far been an unprecedented occurrence in the history of observations in Uzbekistan.

In April, rapid snowmelt continues in mountainous areas. By the end of the month, according to climate data, snow will only remain in high mountainous areas.
