Important steps are being taken to modernize the science system in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Starting from January 1, 2026, the Academy of Sciences Fund will begin its activities. This fund aims to ensure sustainable financing of local research and to bring scientific management to a new level.
This was reported by the upl.uz website. Among the main tasks of the fund is to triple the number of innovative developments and the income derived from them.
In addition, it is planned to increase the share of young scientists in scientific institutes to 60 percent and to create the necessary conditions for the return of scientific diaspora members working abroad. Furthermore, a number of changes will be implemented within the framework of improving the scientific infrastructure.
It is envisaged to transfer the Advanced Technology Center and the International Molecular Allergology Center to the Academy of Sciences. To develop scientific potential in the regions, new branches of the Academy of Sciences will be established in the cities of Namangan, Samarkand, and Termez.
The city of Tashkent will continue to strengthen its position as a scientific center in Central Asia. An office of the International Scientific Council is planned to be opened here, whose main task will be to expand scientific cooperation and unite regional initiatives.
Innovations are also expected in the humanitarian field. The National Archaeology Center will be transformed into the Institute of Anthropology.
Additionally, strengthening cooperation between science and industry, supporting young specialists, and eliminating bureaucratic barriers in grant distribution have been identified as urgent tasks. For reference, the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences was established in 1943 and is considered one of the oldest scientific institutions in Central Asia.
During the years of the Second World War, many leading scientists were evacuated to Tashkent, which laid a solid foundation for the development of local scientific schools.
