The historical border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has escalated. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Thai army announced that it had struck a military facility in Cambodian territory using an F-16 fighter jet. Thai officials reported that 11 civilians and one military personnel were killed as a result of artillery attacks, and more than 30 people were injured.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defense described this attack as a provocation and invasion, accusing Thailand of violating territorial integrity. Cambodian officials noted that two bombs were dropped by Thai aircraft.
As diplomatic tensions rise, Thailand announced it would expel the Cambodian ambassador from the country. Mines that exploded in the border area are cited as the cause of the conflict.
Thailand considers them to have been recently planted, while Cambodia denies this. For security reasons, over 40,000 people have been evacuated from the provinces of Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Several houses, a hospital, and fuel stations were damaged in the conflict. The international community, particularly Malaysia and China, has called for peace and expressed its readiness to mediate.
The 817-kilometer-long border between Thailand and Cambodia has been disputed for years. Similar armed clashes occurred in this area in 2011.
The current conflict indicates the worsening political and security situation in the region. Negotiations between the parties are considered necessary to ensure peace and stability.
