A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 occurred in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This event is considered the strongest earthquake recorded in this area since 1952. The epicenter of the earthquake is located precisely in the Kamchatka Peninsula, and strong tremors are posing a threat not only in Russia but also in other countries along the Pacific coast.
Seismologists are warning that several aftershocks may occur. As a result of the earthquake, the Russian government issued an official warning about the tsunami threat in the Kuril Islands.
The Japanese side reported that tsunami waves of three meters in height are approaching. For this reason, the coastal population is being evacuated urgently.
Additionally, tsunami warnings have been issued for the western coasts of the United States, particularly in Alaska, California, and the Hawaiian Islands. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has raised the preparedness level for potential threats.
So far, there is no official information about casualties or significant destruction as a result of the earthquake. However, search and rescue teams have been put on alert, and monitoring has been intensified in hazardous areas.
According to international seismologists, this earthquake indicates an increase in seismic activity in the "Ring of Fire" of the Pacific Ocean. Authorities are strongly advising all residents to remain vigilant and be prepared for emergencies.
