For the first time, an ultrasound examination was conducted on a fish at a veterinary clinic in Zelenograd, Russia, and a successful surgical procedure was performed. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the information, a turquoise arowana fish, around five to seven years old, was brought to the clinic with swelling in the abdominal area. Within a week, the swelling rapidly increased, impairing the fish's swimming ability and causing difficulties in excretion.
There was also a risk of tumor rupture. During the examination, the clinic's veterinarians, along with ultrasound specialist Tatyana Baragina, identified a cyst filled with bloody fluid in the fish's abdominal cavity.
Subsequently, surgeon Nadejda Kuzina successfully performed a procedure to clear the contents of the cyst using a puncture method. This medical intervention was applied for the first time in the clinic's practice, and the experience yielded positive results.
After the operation, the fish restored its active movements and returned to a normal swimming state. Officials noted that the fish needs to be under the supervision of doctors for a while, as there is a risk of the cyst refilling with fluid.
This procedure opened new possibilities for maintaining animal health and laid the foundation for using effective treatment methods in similar cases in the future
