In St. Petersburg, the fight against invasive plants, particularly the dangerous pigweed, has reached a new level. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Now, artificial intelligence technology has been involved in addressing this issue. According to the State Administrative and Technical Inspection (GATI), the AI system has already identified eight cases of violations.
This news was covered by the Pravilamag publication. Before the project was launched, a neural network was specially trained to detect pigweed.
The system studied the growth stages of the plant in detail and began identifying invasive plants in urban areas and plots. During the past week, all violations detected by artificial intelligence were recorded on private lands, meaning that landowners had not eradicated the invasive plants.
According to GATI, the high efficiency of automatic detection has been confirmed, and the system has officially been launched. Currently, there are eight mobile AI complexes called "Gorodovoy" operating in the city.
They conduct monitoring in 186 directions every day. The process of detecting pigweed using neural networks typically takes 3-4 weeks.
Experts warn that the problem is serious. According to Skoltech research, by 2060, pigweed could occupy a large part of Central Russia.
Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the fight against invasive plants
