Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in Israel demanding an end to the Gaza war and the release of hostages held by Hamas. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The largest protest took place at the “Hostages Square” in Tel Aviv. Protesters consider the government's plan to capture Gaza City a decision that endangers the lives of the hostages.
As part of the protests, a one-day general strike was also organized. Some roads, universities, and offices were closed, and approximately 40 people were detained.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized these protests, emphasizing that they only strengthen Hamas’s resolve. The families of the hostages sharply condemned the government.
Einav Zangauker, the mother of a young man named Matan, stated: “We demand our children. The government has turned a just war into a senseless war.”
The protests began after the Israeli war cabinet decided to fully capture Gaza City. The United Nations expressed critical views regarding this plan.
In Gaza, thousands of people are forced to leave their homes due to relentless bombings, with dozens of civilians killed. According to UN data, 1.9 million people in Gaza have been displaced from their homes, and a large part of the population is at risk of starvation.
In 2023, over 1,200 Israelis were killed in an attack organized by Hamas, while Israeli retaliatory strikes resulted in the deaths of more than 61,000 Palestinians. These events pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the region.
