A book taken 82 years ago was returned to the public library in San Antonio, Texas. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The publication Pravilamag reported on this. According to the information, the work titled “Your Child, His Family, and Friends” by Francis Bruce Strain was borrowed for reading in July 1943 by an 11-year-old boy.
The book was supposed to be returned to the library within 28 days. However, after the boy’s family moved to work at the U.S. embassy in Mexico, the book remained with them.
After more than 80 years, the granddaughter found this book among household items and decided to return it to the library. Along with the book, an apology letter was sent, stating “grandmother can no longer pay the fine.”
But there is no need to worry, as the San Antonio library canceled late fees in 2021. The book is now displayed at the library’s reception and is planned to be handed over to a used bookstore later.
Similarly, a comparable incident occurred in India. A person took 2 rupees from a temple and returned 10,000 rupees after 55 years.
These events highlight the importance of humanity and honesty in matters of books and financial responsibility.
