Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to a meeting in Moscow. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by the Agence France-Presse (AFP) agency citing sources. According to the information, Putin's invitation was conveyed during a phone conversation with United States President Donald Trump on August 18.
During the conversation, Putin's invitation was discussed at a meeting held at the White House with Trump, Zelenskiy, and European state leaders. According to AFP sources, Ukrainian President Zelenskiy rejected the proposal to hold a meeting in Moscow.
He emphasized that a clear decision was made about the impossibility of holding the meeting at that location. Additionally, Donald Trump stated that preparations have begun to conduct negotiations with Zelenskiy and to organize a meeting by contacting Putin via phone.
Furthermore, French President Emmanuel Macron mentioned that the meeting could take place in the city of Geneva. The Swiss government, a member of the International Criminal Court, officially announced its readiness to grant immunity to Putin during his visit.
According to Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, under certain conditions, Putin will be allowed to visit the country. Last year, the Swiss government established rules granting immunity to individuals under international arrest warrants.
Western media also mention Rome and Budapest as other possible locations for the meeting. The Russian side has not yet officially confirmed Putin's consent to meet with the Ukrainian president.
President's aide Yuri Ushakov stated that only between Putin and Trump there was an exchange of views on strengthening bilateral negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
