Heavy rains have brought life to a halt in Mumbai, the financial center of India. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
As a result of the rains, many roads were submerged, and transport and flight schedules were disrupted. Some parts of the city were flooded up to waist and knee level, forcing residents to swim through the flooded streets.
More than 600 people trapped under water were rescued by local authorities, 23 of whom received treatment due to oxygen deficiency. Additionally, 350 people from low-lying areas of the city were relocated to temporary shelters.
Thousands of people are facing inconveniences due to delays and cancellations of local trains and flights at the international airport in Mumbai. Experts believe that the rains have overwhelmed the city's outdated infrastructure protection system and have not kept pace with the rapid population growth.
Therefore, despite the presence of new bridges and metro lines, it remains difficult to eliminate flooding and traffic congestion. Local politicians and citizens blame the government for unpreparedness.
Residents of the city are advised to follow safety measures regardless of weather conditions and to move to temporary shelters when necessary.
