Construction work has begun on a new monument complex dedicated to the great scholar Alisher Navoi in Mazar-i-Sharif, one of Afghanistan's major cities. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The official foundation stone has been laid to rebuild the monument located in the city center, which had fallen into disrepair in recent years. According to the city mayor Abdurahmon Himmat, this decision was made at one of the city's important intersections — Mukhobirot Square.
To properly honor Navoi's legacy, a large plot of land has been allocated and the construction of a modern complex is planned. The new complex will showcase Alisher Navoi's life, works, and services as a statesman in four languages — Uzbek, English, Dari, and Pashto.
Additionally, a special library will be established. The monument construction will be financed from the city administration's budget and is expected to be completed within a month.
Experts from Termez State University will also assist in preparing the texts. Earlier, reports circulated that the Navoi statue and monument in Mazar-i-Sharif had been demolished.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan requested an explanation from the Afghan government. Later, the Taliban stated that these actions were initiated by the local authorities and that the previous monument site was removed because it was not worthy of Navoi's memory.
They have adopted a plan to build a new and magnificent complex. Thus, an important step has been taken in establishing a new monument in Mazar-i-Sharif that honors Alisher Navoi's name and passes on his spiritual heritage to future generations.
