Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy addressed the nation on the occasion of the country's Independence Day. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He emphasized the necessity of just and sustainable peace in Ukraine, stating that this peace can only be resolved by Ukrainians themselves. In his speech, Zelenskiy said that Ukraine has not yet won, but has not been defeated either.
The speech came after reports emerged about an attack on a Russian nuclear power plant. It was reported that a fire caused by drones from Russia occurred but was quickly extinguished.
The International Atomic Energy Agency once again reminded of the need to protect nuclear facilities. Independence Day celebrations were held in the center of Kyiv city.
At the event, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney participated and announced that more than one billion dollars in military aid would be provided to Ukraine. Additionally, the United Kingdom and Norway also confirmed their support for Ukraine's defense.
Russia, meanwhile, reported having captured two villages in the Donetsk region. Since the beginning of the war, Russian forces have controlled approximately 20 percent of Ukrainian territory.
Nevertheless, Ukrainians continue to fight for their independence. Despite a meeting last week between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the expected outcome was not achieved.
Zelenskiy spoke about Russia prolonging the war and emphasized that Ukraine will continue its resistance until just peace is established.
