The Turkish government has started building new bomb shelters across the country to strengthen the security infrastructure. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to official Ankara, special shelters will be established in all 81 provinces to protect civilians from potential war and emergencies. This decision was approved by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a government meeting held in June.
Within the scope of the project, the responsibility has been assigned to the Turkish Housing Development Administration. A report prepared by the National Intelligence Academy recommended constructing rapid warning systems and modern equipped shelters based on lessons learned from the armed conflict between Israel and Iran.
The report also included proposals on using metro stations in major cities during possible conflict situations and measures to reduce casualties among the population. Turkish officials emphasized that they were greatly impressed by the extensive network of shelters built in Israel.
These facilities have effectively protected thousands of people during air raids. According to Turkey's NTV channel, the main purpose of the new shelters is to keep the population safe during military clashes or natural disasters, including nuclear threats.
Currently, the number of existing shelters in Turkey does not meet the demand. According to regulations adopted in 1987, many buildings should have shelters, but in practice, they are often used as parking lots or warehouses.
The construction work has studied the experience of countries such as Japan and Switzerland. In some cities, especially the capital Ankara, the construction of shelters has already begun.
Experts believe that this project will mark a new phase in Turkey's security system. In society, there is growing interest in observing what results this initiative will bring.
