The city of Toyoake in Japan is recommending residents to limit smartphone use to no more than two hours per day. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This initiative is currently being discussed by the city council. According to Mayor Masafumi Koki, this restriction will not apply during work and study hours and will not be strictly enforced.
His goal is to encourage residents to consciously manage their screen time. Some activities, such as watching videos, sports training, online learning, or e-sports practice, are not counted within the two-hour limit.
The mayor emphasized that some students use smartphones excessively to avoid going to school, and adults reduce sleep and family time in favor of more smartphone use. The city council is expected to approve the rules in October.
According to the proposal, elementary school students are advised not to use devices after 9:00 PM, while adults and older students are advised to avoid device use after 10:00 PM. The proposal received mixed reactions among the population.
More than 120 people filed complaints, with 80% opposing it, but some citizens and families supported the initiative. The city administration plans to implement these measures to develop the potential of residents and promote a healthy lifestyle.
