The US government has canceled the customs duty exemption granted to cheap imported goods. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
From now on, orders up to $800 will also undergo customs control and customs duties will be paid. This new regulation came into effect on August 29.
Last year, more than 1.4 billion parcels were exempted from customs duties in the US. Experts believe this change will lead to price increases and a reduction in choices for buyers.
In particular, small business entities may suffer significant losses. The duty exemption was mainly widely used by Chinese online stores such as Shein and Temu.
However, the US government emphasizes that this exemption was being abused and even used for importing illegal goods. Following the enforcement of the new regulation, several international postal services temporarily suspended shipments to the US.
This has caused delays for buyers and shortages of some products. According to experts' estimates, prices will rise in the near future.
At the same time, Chinese companies are trying to continue trading through their warehouses in the US. These changes will create new conditions in the market and may alter shopping habits.
