At an auction held by America's Heritage Auctions, the famous Rosebud sled from Orson Welles' 1941 film "Citizen Kane" was sold for 14.75 million dollars. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This sled is considered one of the three surviving copies in film history. It was in the hands of director Joe Dante for many years.
Dante accidentally found the sled in 1984 while working at the old RKO Pictures studio. Made of pine wood in 1941, the sled has a red seat with the word "Rosebud" written on it.
According to Joe Dante, "It is an honor to preserve such a rare piece of cinematography history." Additionally, the sled was also used in the director's own films.
For example, it can be seen in the films "Explorers" (1985), "Suburbia" (1989), and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" (1990). For reference, other sleds from the film "Citizen Kane" have also been put up for sale before.
For instance, in 1982, the famous director Steven Spielberg bought one for 60.5 thousand dollars. In 1996, another copy was sold to an unknown buyer for 230 thousand dollars.
These sleds are valued as precious and rare exhibits in film history.
