The famous red slippers worn by Judy Garland in the Hollywood classic film "The Wizard of Oz" were sold at Heritage Auctions for 32.5 million dollars. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The initial starting price was 1.55 million dollars, with estimates around 3 million. However, the final price surprised everyone and set a new historical record for "Ruby Slippers."
Several pairs of slippers were used in the film, and currently only four of them have been preserved. One of them was sold for 666 thousand dollars in 2000, while another was purchased in 2012 by Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio and donated to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
The sold pair of slippers are considered the highest quality examples and were specifically used in close-up scenes showing Dorothy's feet in the film. The slippers previously belonged to collector Michael Shaw.
They were stolen after being placed in a museum in 2005, but the FBI found them in 2018 and returned them to their owner. It was revealed that Terry Jon Martin was behind the theft and believed the slippers were made of genuine rubies.
In the film, these slippers were the key to Dorothy's return home. The character had to tap the heels of the slippers three times while repeating the words "There's no place like home."
These scenes are very famous in film history, and the slippers hold great significance as a cultural heritage.
