According to the official information from the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 300 South Korean citizens were arrested during this raid. This situation attracted the attention of the country's diplomatic offices and international observers, leading to widespread discussions.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a total of 475 foreign nationals were detained during the inspections. Most of them were individuals from South Korea.
This operation has been recorded as one of the largest raids against foreign labor migrants in the last 20 years. According to CNN, representatives of Hyundai emphasized that these individuals are not official or direct employees of the company.
They stated that these persons might have been employed through subcontracting organizations working under contracts with the company. In an official statement released by Hyundai, it was said that the company strictly complies with the current legislation and legal regulations in all countries where it operates worldwide.
The hiring processes are conducted in full accordance with inspections and official document requirements. The South Korean government expressed its official position on this matter, stating that it received with serious concern and regret that mainly Korean citizens were targeted during the operation conducted by the United States.
Seoul officials are requesting explanations regarding the assurance of human rights, fair treatment of the detained citizens, and the protection of their legal interests.
