Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba Resigns
An unexpected event occurred in Japanese politics. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The country's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba officially announced his resignation. This decision was made following the Liberal Democratic Party's defeat in the recent parliamentary elections.

Experts emphasize that Ishiba took this step to prevent divisions within the party. At a press conference held on Sunday, the Prime Minister stated that he decided to resign because the trade agreement concluded with the US President Donald Trump's administration was successfully finalized.

In the summer, Trump demanded that Tokyo sign the trade deal by August 1, threatening to impose 25% tariffs on Japanese exports otherwise. Ishiba told journalists: “I have always said not to cling tightly to the position and to make decisions at the right time.

After the negotiations with America were successfully completed, I believe it is time to resign and make way for a new generation.” Ishiba, who became Prime Minister in October 2024, won the party elections after the previous leader Fumio Kishida did not nominate himself. He promised to take measures against inflation, ensure economic stability, and implement reforms within the party.

However, a controversy related to fundraising arose within a short period. In the July elections, the Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition lost their majority in the upper house.

This was the first time in the party's 70-year history that such a situation occurred. According to the election results, the ruling bloc held only 47 seats out of 248.

According to sources from NHK and Asahi Shimbun, many Japanese politicians called on Ishiba to step down. However, until last week, he stated that he did not intend to resign.

The Liberal Democratic Party has been in power almost continuously since 1955, operating as a center-right political force. Ishiba's resignation marks the beginning of a new era for the party and government and is expected to bring significant changes to the country's political life.
