The asteroid named 2025 FA22 safely passed near the orbits of Earth and the Moon. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory, this celestial body moved approximately 800,000 kilometers from Earth at 12:41 Tashkent time. Although this distance is large, scientists closely monitored the asteroid because it had previously been listed by the European Space Agency as one of the most dangerous space objects.
The asteroid's size is approximately 130 meters in width and 290 meters in length. Scientists believe that if such a large object were to collide with Earth, it could cause significant damage.
However, the recent close approach of 2025 FA22 was completely safe. Its next close approach will occur on August 20, 2036, but this time the asteroid will pass 25 times farther from Earth than it did now.
According to laboratory calculations, serious danger from this asteroid may arise in the years 2089 and 2173. For this reason, astronomers continue to monitor its movement constantly.
After passing Earth's orbit, 2025 FA22 will move away from the Sun, its illumination will increase, and it will appear brighter to the eye. However, experts emphasize that it can only be observed with telescopes having an aperture of at least 30 centimeters.
It is almost impossible to see the asteroid with ordinary instruments or the naked eye. In conclusion, the safe passage of the asteroid was an important event for humanity.
For now, there is no cause for concern, but its potential hazardous approaches in the future remind us once again of the necessity to regularly monitor and study such massive objects in the sky.
